Today's Song

Under a Mountain by The Black Crowes

Cuase it just came on and it's such a kick ass song! Have you people MET Marc F'n Ford?

I gots me a job!

I've been there just over a week and things seem to be going really well. I'm working in corporate employee relocation. Basicically I help coordinate real estate transaction and moves. Stuff I'm VERY familiar with. The people I work with a really laid back and super nice. They seem to be totally jazzed to have me and it's nice to be appreciated.

In any case, I'm really glad to have a job (despite having to wake up early)!

Jefferson Starship is my guilty pleasure

I admit it. And no I'm not talking about the legitemately good "Blows To The Empire" years. I'm talking about the totally crap pop Mickey Thomas years. I've had "Jane" stuck in my head all day. It's almost as good as "Find Your Way Back". Dino and Alvin can make fun of me all they want but I LOVE them!

I admited that I was powerless over knitting...

OK I'm a full blown addict. All day at work all I could think about was the chunky Merino wool I had in my knitting bag in the car. By the time my lunch break came, I forced myself to get food and eat first. However, I bolted it down and pulled ou the yarn and needles. Then sure enough soon as I come home, I pick it back up. I stayed up 2 hours later than I meant to cause I couldn't stop. It's sssoooooo yummy. I made bother of my roomies touch my wool hahahahaha.

Passing on the love!

Well some of you know that my dear friends James and Shelly are having a baby. Today was supposed to be the day of their co-ed baby shower that I was throwing. However, all of our loser friends pooped out, made other plans, or were out of town. I suspect that since most of our guest list were guys that they all shuddered at the thought of a "baby shower". In any case, a couple of days ago we decided to pospone it until after the baby is born. Then, we'll just tell people that we're having a "party" and to bring baby gifts. We'll make no mention of the word "Shower".

So, instead of serving chili and drinking beer out of baby bottles Shelly and I decided to spend the day eating and shopping and knitting. We had so much stinking fun! We hit CPK and got our faves and then walked around the 28th Street Mall and browsed through Anthropology and Macys and some other pretty stores.

THEN (here comes the good stuff) we hit the yarn shop!!!!! Of course, like any other person, Shelly had to touch everything. She couldn't believe all the different aisles of glorious yarn. The original goal was for Shelly to pick out some yarn for me to knit a hat for the baby. However, Shelly decided that she wanted to learn how to knit too!!!

I had originally had my mind set on some soft cuddly chenille. However, we decided that if it got baby barf in it or some other gunk that it would probably be hard to clean. We instead decided on some awesome fuzzy acrylic fleece that will be just as soft and cozy but muuuuuch easier to wash.

Then I helped Shelly pick out some yarn and needles for her FIRST PROJECT! I talked her into some acrylic blend in not too small of a gauge because I thought that would be easiest for her to learn on. We found some grey heather flecked yarn for a good winter scarf and some #10 1/2 bamboo needles.

(OK, this is the part where I admit that I bought two skeens of super chunky charcoal grey wool and some #13 bamboo needles for the new scarf I'm making for my man. I decided I hated the other one and this one is going to be WAY more rockin!)

In any case, we came home and I taught Shelly how to knit. What is also kind of hilarious is that Shelly is leaft handed, and I am right handed. We started with the VERY important lesson on how to wind a center pull ball. She did an excellent job until she started to pull the working end and no yarn was comming out. we had to do some digging but we got the knots undone and yarn was sailing smoothly.

I have to say that Shelly made and EXCELLENT go of casting on. In fact I'd call her a master caster hahahaha (I just thought of that right now hahahaha). And then she really picked up the knitting RIGHT away. She was certain that it looked all wrong but I assured her that it was right on and that I felt the same way on my first day. Then she got a few rows in and was all bummed that her stitches weren't even.

Having shown her the cool roll hat and the awesome checked dish rag I thought that it was definitely time to pull out the giant purple shawl. I laid it out and explained that it was supposed to have been a scarf and pointed out all the flaws. We laughed and I hope that she felt more confident. Yet, being a perfectionist like myself one is never sure.

In any case, by the time she left we had cheesecake and she had a right good scarf going. I am so excited to have a knitting buddy and to have been able to pass on a very cool craft.

Oh and Shelly and I have decided that some day we'll get rich by having a rockin cool domestic goddess show on the Style Channel about cooking and baking and knitting and as a special ode it will be called "Screw Martha!" hahahahaha.

In any case I had a FANTASTIC day. Thanks to my buddy Shelly and the little guy inside of her!

Another Dish rag, this time in checks.

So I read about this cool checked pattern thing that's a stockinette and reverse stockinette. In any cause, I thought it might spice up a dish rag and give me a chance to practice. I finished it in ONE NIGHT! Yeah, I know.

I picket up some yarn on the way home from work. Came home, wound it into a center pull ball while dinner was cooking and then knitted my little heart out.

The SMARTEST thing I did was to use stitch markers where the stitches change. That saved me a TON of counting and most definitely saved me from a ton of screw ups. Next, I just need to figure out how to do a boarder.

In any case, I think that my mom will like the dish cloth and I'm going to start on another one tomorrow.

Tomorrow's trip to the yarn shop.

So tomorrow I was supposed to be throwing a baby shower for James and Shelly. However, all of our freinds seem to be HUGE losers and aren't comming. I'm actually embarassed because I've NEVER had so few responses to a party. I mean, I throw awesome parties. And it was going to be AWESOME! However, people are out of town or have other big plans so we are going to maybe shoot for after the baby is born.

Long story short, I'm going to sucker Shelly into going to the yarn store with me. And MAYBE I'll even teach her how to knit. The truth is that I want her to pick out some yarn so that I can make the baby a hat. And maybe some other yarn for a blanket.

But what does this really mean? I'm going to the yarn shop!

Dish Rag Pics

OK, as promised here are pictures of the lovely dish rag. It is 100% cotten so I am expceting it to shrink up when I wash it. However, here it is pre-washing.
I took pictures of both sides so you can see the ribbing and one from above so you can see the whole thing. It is about 10 inches square.

I was actually trying this pattern that I "read". However I kind of screwed it up and came out with my own.

CO 40
Row 1- K
Row 2- K
Row 3- K
Row 4- P
Repeat until desired length.
Then Replace Row 4 with another knit row, then tie off.

Voila. I know I know SUPER easy but this is my first time with any kind of pattern.

Important Zeppelin announcement!

LONDON (Reuters) - The London comeback concert of rock group Led Zeppelin has been postponed for two weeks because guitarist Jimmy Page has broken his finger, the promoters said on Thursday.

The concert will now take place on December 10 and all tickets for the original concert on November 26 will be valid, a statement said.

When you drive to work listening to The Sweet....

You have The Sweet in your head all day!

OK so I have a new job. And it's not bad and the people are nice and I get to knit on my lunch break but no tunes man. I tried to play my Yahoo Music station but it got zapped down like maybe the firewall won't let it stream. So I think I'm gonna have to bring some CD's in with me. The thing is, I'm a little worried that my co-workers don't like Sabbath. I might have to start off with something mellow and work my way into the serious rock.

UUUUUGH INSOMNIA!

I've been an insomniac my whole life. However for the first time in a long time I have to get up early in the mornings. It is now after midnight and I'm tapping my toes and can't fall asleep for the life of me. The concoction of sleeping aids I've taken is REDICULOUS.

I'm a person who needs minimum 8 hours of sleep to be human. I really prefer 10. Right now I'm gonna be lucky to get 6 or 7.

Luckily I have a doctors appointment on Friday and hopefully he'll hook me up with some good drugs!

You'd think that knitting would help the insomnia but it doesn't seem to. I just kind of get more and more sucked in to what I'm knitting and can't put it down. And then I start getting ideas of other things I could knit and I create patterns in my head and it makes it even HARDER to sleep cuase my mind is swirling with "what ifs".

Alright, I'm going to go lay down, close my eyes and pretend that I'm not crazy.
